ClownsBangor, Maine

The Anah Shrine Clown Unit is best known for its comic antics at the annual Circus, parades, store openings, restaurant celebrations, the Home Depot and at other public functions like Shrine Hospital Screening Clinics and the like.

The Unit has a serious purpose...raising funds for our Sneaker Fund and creating public awareness of the Anah Temple Shrine. Our Clowns are quite visible and therefore, among the best PR representatives that we have. There isn't a Summer weekend when you won't find our guys somewhere giving of their time and, like all of us, at our own expense. This is a very active unit.

The Unit annually raises thousands of dollars for the Sneaker Fund; an international campaign to provide our Shriner Burns Hospitals with research money so vital for the continued development of miracle cures for burns patients. The International Shrine Clown Association (I.S.C.A.) understands that today's research is tomorrow's cure.

The Anah Shrine Clown Unit meets on the third Friday of the month unless otherwise scheduled due to a conflict. All meetings are held at the Shrine Center and there are currently vacancies for new members.

The Air National Guard held their Annual Family Day on October 15th which Clowns Scooter, Divit and Jappo attended. Kind of late for a family day but they got lucky and had a nice day for it.

October was looking like a very busy month for the Clowns with four Saturdays in the month and every one of them with a meal booked. We got a cancel for the 7th, but had the Potentate's Reception on the 14th and shorthanded but got by just fine. The NASCAR's Super Supper was on the 31st with a good crew and went very well. The one we were all looking forward to was the Grand Master's Reception (or rather roast) that we weere putting on for ourselves on the 28th. A real nice evening. Jappo and his kitchen crew did a super job with the snacks and meal and where could anyone find a better MC than Jiggs. I'm not sure where he got the poetry but it was fitting. Bummer, BoBo and Jappo did a good roasting of Yah-Hoo, and every story the truth, I think. I'm sure everyone enjoyed the evening and our Grand Master took everything in stride and why not, he's one of us!

The Air National Guard held their annual Halloween Party with Clowns Jappo and Iggy there to lend a hand with the ghosts and goblins.

At the Veazie Senior Citizens on November 1st Jappo did a makeup seminar all by himself and he sounded very proud of himself saying he did the narration too. We sure miss Bummer, don't we?

On November 11th all kinds of things going on. Gumpy, Spiffy and Jappo did the Home Depot's Children's Workshop which is a monthly gig. Then Scooter joined Spiffy and Jappo at the Good Samaritan Adoption Party with parents and children. Then after that Gumpy, Scooter and Jappo met at the Shrine Center for the Sunshine Club Craft Fair where the Clown Unit had a table to sell our cookbooks. Dr. Lotta Fun and Chuckles worked the table and the guys in makeup clowned. That's all for this month. Got this column in early because I'm heading for Hunting Camp for a week. Keep on Clowning and be safe.

Keep on Clowning!
