Greetings from the DBC,
I don't know where the summer went. Time goes by so fast. Another parade season has ended. On reflection a great job was done by all.
A special thanks to Noble Mike Seymour and Lady Tina for towing our trailer from town to town.
Thanks to Captain Glen Rand who led us to another successful year; to Music Director Herb Hopkins, to Drum Major Noble Dennis McCurdy and to all the Nobles who made all our parades and did a great job!
Many of us are getting up there in age. Lady Jackie and I were sitting in the lobby of our hotel in Hartford observing people passing by and realize most Shriners are older. It reminds me of a poem Jackie's late mother used to read to us many tears ago called "I'm fine"
There's nothing whatever the matter with me.
I'm as healthy as I can be,
of course I have arthritis in both my knees
and when I talk I talk with a wheeze,
but I'm awfully well for the shape I'm in!
How do I know that my youth has been spent?
'cause my get up and go just got up and went,
but in spite of all that, I'm able to grin
when I think of the places my get up has been!
Old age is golden I've heard it said,
but sometimes I wonder as I get into my bed.
My ears are in a drawer and my teeth in a cup,
my eyes on the table until I get up.
'Ere sleep dims my eyes,
I say to myself is there anything else I should have left on the shelf."
I get up each morning and dust off my wits, pick up the paper and read the obits
If my name is missing, I know I'm not dead,
So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed!
The moral of this is, as this tale we unfold
That for all of us who are growing old.
It's better to say "I'm fine" with a grin
Then to let them know the shape we're in!
Happy birthday to John Anderson, Lewis Fye, Lady Eleanor Libby, Ellie Rand. Many happy returns to you all.
Happy anniversary to Mike & Tina Seymour.
Nobles will be informed of upcoming meetings.
Until next time.
