The purpose of ANAH's K9's FOR KIDS is to promote friendship amoung its members and to promote the interests of ANAH Shriners, to raise money for shriners hospitals on behalf of ANAH Shriners, and to provide local and Shriner hospitals with registered therapy dogs.

Boy didn't October fly past us quickly and hasn't the year flown fast - it is almost Thanksgiving? The K-9s have been busy at home, as their Shriners were busy having their Annual Shriners Only Meeting, a.k.a the big pow-wow, the defining moment, the supreme event. Lots of talk, maybe some decisions, lots of talk, coffee, lots of talk, new topics, lots of talk, decisions - maybe(?), lots of talk, FINALLY DECISIONS!

All kidding aside, a lot was accomplished, but it was very lonely - as only six members attended and only, poor, little, lonely, Izzy for K-9s. If it hadn't been for the two, supportive, Emeritus members - Hartley Webb and George Kent, some really good ideas may not have been suggested.

There will be voting for the January 2007 slate of officers at the November 1st meeting (God willing and the creek don't rise) vying for offices will be:
For Director - John Solak, with his faithful, K-9 side-kick "Bud-Bud". For Assistant Director - Weibley Dean II, and his faithful, K-9 companion "Gabby", who by the way had 11 wonderful, healthy, puppies on October 1, 2006. For Secretary two candidates: Steve Campbell with his gentle, K-9 friend, "Bodgen" and Dan Loving, with his lovable K-9 "Jlo". For Treasurer - Larry Lamson, our newest member, with his new, puppy.

Both of the K-9 for Kids Annual fund raisers were approved to continue in 2007. So be looking for the notices of the Annual K-9's For Kids Ice Fishing Derby to be held at Pleasant Pond in Stetson. With great prizes including, the grand prize of $500.00s-worth of home heating oil. A really neat prize for a February Ice Fishing Derby wouldn't you say? And it is going to be held on February 17 which just happens to be, the State of Maine Free Fishing Weekend, bet those K-9s had that all figured out.

The other popular annual event, the K-9s For Kids Golf Tournament will be held in May - you know, we are getting a reputation for the great meal that Wiebly Dean and his volunteers produce every year, after the tournament for all the golfers. It has been suggested that some "golfers" only come for the fantastic meal. Oh, for all our party dogs, the annual CHRISTMAS PARTY will be held December 6, 2006, with the ever popular Yankee Swap, hosted again this year by our own, funny, entertaining, Emeritus Terry White. A potluck dinner and lots of fun are on the schedule, with each K-9 receiving a special treat when their Shriners arrive home. This brings another month of K-9 activities to an end and I leave you with this thought "a K-9 always loves you and never gets mad". A fond "Woof" to all of you from all of us.
