Hello Kampers,
Daylight savings time has ended, the leaves have left and the deer hunters may, or may not, have venison in the freezer. I guess that tells us that summer has not only passed us by, but fall has also.
It's time now to turn our focus to the Christmas Season, shopping and Santa Claus. Speaking of shopping, two of the Kamper Club's most avid shoppers, namely, Ora Farnsworth and Rose Mondville, came up to the Bangor area from down east to attend the Sunshine Club's Annual Holiday Market at the Shrine Center on the 4th of November, stopping along the way in Hampden to pick up my wife, Gloria. At the Holiday Market they ran into more sister Kampers, namely Sue Black, Bonnie Whitney and Lorena Fenlason. Those two girls from Washington County showed Gloria the true meaning of "shop 'till you drop." They were gone all day and Gloria was ready to drop when she got back home at 5:30.
The Kamper's Christmas gathering at the Coach House Restaurant will be history as you read this, but hopefully we will have had a good turnout, and story teller Ken Whitney will have had a good tale for me to pass on next month.
The snowbirds will have flown the coop by now for the most part, but there may be a few stragglers who will stay until after Christmas. I did hear from Gordon & Connie Lawrence a week or so ago that they arrived safe and sound at their winter digs in Dade City, FL. on the 28th of October.
Derward & Betty Shedd landed on the 30th in Lakeland and Derward started working as the maintenance man in their RV Park on the 1st of November. I doubt if that will be allowed to interfere with his golf though.
This winter will be Don & Barbara Johnson's first foray south for the cold season; they are headed for Lake Wales, FL and are leaving home on the 18th of November. I just heard from Charlie & Selma Larson that they are also leaving on the 18th for Temple Terrace FL; those who have driven down that way before with an RV, like to schedule their itinerary so as to pass through Hartford, CT. on a Sunday when the traffic is lighter.
I hope the Johnson's enjoy Florida as much as we have for the past 11 winters. This winter will be a dramatic change for us; we're staying here in Maine. Not having fresh squeezed orange juice every morning with breakfast is going to be hard to get used to. Instead of picking a couple of oranges off the tree next to our RV, we'll be shoveling off the door step. I still have my long handled orange picker, maybe I'll use it to clean the icicles off the eaves and cry a little while I'm doing it.
There are Kampers who are celebrating birthdays this month: Walter Ash Jr., Bobbie Gilbert, Julie Mosley, Wally Fenlason, Val Deschene, Bonnie Whitney, Dan Wilson and James Nolan. Hope you all have a happy birthday.
Sending out happy anniversary wishes to: Ed & Sue St. Heart, Randy & Ellie Luce, Gil & Louise Lanctot, Ralph & Maggie Hill and Derward & Betty Shedd.
Now is the time to begin studying the camper's world catalog and let Santa know what you would like him to bring you for your camper this Christmas.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, and I hope you all have your family around you during the Holidays.
See you here again next year, Jim Bennett
