Keystone CopsBangor, Maine

The unit was formed in the summer of 1982 while the Illustrious Sir, Harold W. "Sonny" Crocker, Jr. was Potentate and shortly after the June Ceremonial.

Frank Jordan and Tyler Dunning formed the unit with the approval of the Potentate and Divan.

It's purpose: to create an old Keystone Kops unit as depicted in the movies and to support all Anah Shriners functions.

There were fifteen (15) Charter members and five (5) alternates when the unit was organized. Today, after numerous parades, steak feeds, dances and Sunday BEANO, the unit is one of the more active units and makes impressive donations to the Shrine Center and the hospitals.

Monthly Column

Bob Modery, Reporter

I am getting this column in just under the wire, I hope.

First of all, congratulations to Potentate Richard Hallett and Lady Carolyn. Our Unit is looking forward to a prolific year working with you. Also, a big thanks to Past Potentate Fred Lunt and Lady Ellen for representing Anah Shrine in an honorable fashion, we wish you well.

Now for the Keystone news. The January Ceremonial went well as we were proud to have Chief Harold Stevens present Anah Shrine with a check for $1,000.00. Bangor Bob, oh! That's me, received a watch for being the top-line signer on four new Shrine applications. Everything went off without a hitch except Chief Harold had a hard time remembering which Keystone jacket was his. He mistook the Mayor of Herman's jacket, J. R. Tozier's, for his. Maybe we should have put names on them, oops! We did.

Speaking of new jackets, good job Arnold, they look great. Anyone wanting one talk to Harold or Arnold, they are $100.00 each. Arnold Byers also had a pacemaker installed which I was told comes with a remote control so Lady Ann can speed him up or slow him down at wall, we all wish you well Arnie!

Let's get birthdays and such out of the way. First, happy late birthday to Tony Vafiades. He is at the Veterans' Home in Bangor and wants visitors, right Tony ? You look great brother, hang in there. Other birthdays include Don Spencer, Bill Perkins and Teddy Perkins, I thought you were done having birthdays Ted? Lady birthdays include Kristina Savoy and Lyn Stanhope, also a happy anniversary to Don & Bea Spencer. Congrats to all!

At our monthly meeting Harold informed us he had sent out a few letters to some members for absenteeism, we don't want to lose any member, you are all valuable to our Unit, please participate. All reports were given by the proper officers and accepted. Ways to genetrate more revenue were discussed, any suggestions please let us know. Speaking of revenues, gun raffle and steak feed tickets are in; it's never too early to get started so let's "get 'er done"!

Enjoy our mild winter and think spring. Remember, unity is where it is at, that's why we are called a unit!
