Greetings from The County!
Greetings from the Crown of Maine!
Yes, we are still alive and well in Aroostook County! It has been awhile since you have heard from us but that does not mean that we have not been busy. Practice began just after the New Year in preparation for the January Ceremonial held on the 15th. This Annual Meeting is our kickoff event and we look forward to it each year.
By their willingness and our vote, we start this year with the same officers as last. They are President: Dave Hill; Vice President, Lawrence Gallop; Secretary, Calvin Hall; and Treasurer, Spike Savage.
Casino Nights have been big this year. We have two under our belts already. In January we put one on for First Citizens Bank and February saw us joining with the Madawaska Chamber of Commerce for their Annual Meeting and Awards Night. I must say they know how to have fun in Madawaska! Eleven of our members and Ladies traveled there on the 11th in spite of the cold temps and blowing snow. As we were packing up we were approached by many of the attendees with expressions of thanks for making their night so enjoyable.
Interestingly enough, a few said that they look forward to the summer parade when the Oriental Band comes to play. They were surprised to find out we were one and the same. I guess they just did not recognize us without makeup and curly-toed shoes. VP Lawrence Gallop traveled down to the training session held at the Temple on February 5th. He brought back great information and we are quickly filling out all of the forms we learned about!
The Oriental Band is still looking for new members and we could use your help! In addition to musicians, we are in need of two Nobles who would be willing to march and carry our banner. We could use a Noble or two who would be willing to learn the art of makeup too. If you have not yet joined a Unit and want to be involved, why not give us a call!
